From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A guide book is a book for tourists or travelers that provides details about a geographic location, tourist destination, or itinerary. It is the written equivalent of a tour guide. It will usually include details, such as phone numbers, addresses, prices, and reviews of hotels and other lodgings, restaurants, and activities. Maps of varying detail are often included. Sometimes historical and cultural information is also provided. Different guide books may focus on different aspects of travel, from adventure travel to relaxation, or be aimed at travellers with larger or smaller travel budgets, or focus on the particular interests and concerns of certain groups, such as lesbian and gay singles or couples. Guide books are generally intended to be used in conjunction with actual travel, although simply enjoying a guide book with no intention of visiting may be referred to as "armchair tourism". Q. Im leaving for NYC next week. Ive never been there and i wanna see as much as i can in seven days. i advice on buying a good guide book that shows some historic spots, some artistics spots, good mom and pop places to eat. I wanna know the "real" nyc so to speak. any advice? Asked by ralj86 - Thu Dec 20 18:59:45 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The two good guide books that I always refer to before any trip is the Lets Go Guide and the Time Out Guide book. They give you the essentials of you need to know in a snap, which includes places for sightseeing, walks in the city, arts and culture in the city, good places to eat, places for nightlife etc. Both do have the New York City version and both are written by the insider point of view. I had read before both and I think both do have their uniqueness in it. (Lets Go geared more towards budget travel and Time Out is more for travelers in style). Q. I wonder which college guide book is the best? The U.S. News Ultimate College Guide 2009 or the Best 368 Colleges, 2009 from the Princeton Review? Is there any college guide book include college ranking by major? Asked by cm - Fri Dec 26 16:22:48 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. US News has ranking by major, but for graduate programs and it's online at the website. I would get either one, and agree with the other person. There both great guide's so get either one. I would get Princeton Review, but that's just me. Good Luck Answered by gossip_palms - Fri Dec 26 17:35:52 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "guide book"
