Q. My daughter is 13 and she says she wants to shop by herself, but im not sure how old she has to be before she can go out by herself. She yoused 2 get embarresed when i would come in with her when she was like 12 so i would give her some money and wait for her right outside the store. But she wants to actually start like shopping with her friends bythemselves. What should i say?

A. I know it's hard to give her more and more free privileges, but your better off letting her have the comfort of being able to ask you openly to go someplace with your permission then her sneaking behind your back to places. I mean, let's face it: people always want what they can't have. Believe me, I'm thirteen too, and I get to shop by myself now, in small malls in my town. If your talking about a big mall, then no, she's not quite at that yet. Get the opinion of a few parents if your not sure, and ask around and phone up her friends' parents to see what they think. What should I look for when shopping for a plane?
Q. I want speed and a large useful load (like everyone.) This is obviously a first purchase. My maximum budget is around 60 or 70K. I prefer a low wing to a high wing. Any suggestions on a make or model in this price range would be helpful. Also, I don't know about overhaul time, ie, a good amount of time since an overhaul. What is the average amount of hours a plane can fly without being overhauled? How many hours will an airplane last (airframe and total time?) Any other tips on what I should look for when shopping would be very helpful too. I know I'm pressing my luck asking another question but here it goes. I hold a PPL with about 120hrs. A. Ok, the best planes for that cost would probably be 1960's and 1970's mooney m20's which are capable of 200mph, and cruising at 160 using less than 10gph. They have the same o-360 as a cessna 172, but it has a much more aerodynamic wing, and a kickass tail that has a strait leading edge and sloped trailing edge. They have manual gear and flaps, but nobody even cares because they work really well and save 400lbs. Youll need to get your advanced rating, but its worth it for the extra speed. Oh, and the mooney can carry 4 180lb people 1000 miles and stay within weight and balance guidelines. The only downside is that mooneys float at landing much longer because of that aerodynamic wing, so you cant come in with any extra speed or you risk… [cont.]

What qualities and features should I look for when shopping for a tent?
Q. I love to camp, but my poor old tent has worn out and it is time to purchase a new one. There are alot more features available now, and I want to know which ones are worth the extra money, and which ones just add more weight to my gear. It was a little overwhelming shopping at the Bass Pro shop last weekend. Also, where is the best place to find a good deal on these tents? I only have a family of four, so an extra large tent is not needed. Just one that is relativley simple to set up. Thanks for your input!

A. First, get a name brand tent. Almost everyone I know who has purchased a tent from a discount store has had problems with it very soon. Not only is this bad economics but can ruin a camping trip. The tent that is right for you will depend on your own use and priorities. If you are car camping, you will likely accept weight and volume to have a comfortable tent. If you are bike touring, you probably want as small a tent as you can get. Here's a few things to consider: Self supporting - The more self supporting a tent is, the less you have to rely on stakes, but the more likely it is to have more poles and more weight.
